Messages and Secrets of Medjugorje

What claim to see the seers?

Young people all attest that three flashes of light, almost always, precede the appearance. They also claim that they see the Virgin Mary as a real person, which occupies a three-dimensional space. They describe her as a young woman wearing a gray dress, with a white veil, with a crown of stars around the head, blue eyes, curly black hair, rosy cheeks, and floating on a cloud. They say that Maria speaks to them in their native Croatian language, and that they can feel and touch it. Sometimes the messages given to the visionaries are individual and private. They also claim that other people have appeared to them, among which: various angels, Jesus, the devil, and some deceased relatives. They also reported seeing visions of heaven, purgatory and hell.

2500 appearances

On the tenth anniversary of the beginning of the apparitions, it is extraordinary to see that the visionaries are still witnesses of it. While two of the original seers stopped having visions every day (Mirjana and Ivanka), the other four (whose age varies from 19 ai 26 years) they claim that the apparitions continue. The total number reached about two thousand five hundred. This is in stark contrast to the alleged apparitions in Lourdes, where S. Bernadette received only eighteen total apparitions over a five month period. Likewise, in Fatima there have been only a handful of apparitions in the different months.

A thousand messages

In this ten-year period the seers claim to have received about a thousand messages from the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to Catholic scholar Mark Miravalle, Professor of Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, as a whole, the main messages of Medjugorje are divided into three categories. The most important are: the secrets, information on subsequent revelations, and main messages.

I secrets they consist of ten messages that Our Lady promised to give to all the visionaries. This is what happened in Lourdes and Fatima. Secrets are typically apocalyptic in nature, and it is said that they will affect the whole world. One of the secrets has already been partially disclosed by young people. Our Lady promised to leave a visible mark on the hill to commemorate the apparitions.

I secrets they consist of blessings for the obedient and punishments for the wicked. The ninth and tenth secret speaks of how particularly serious the situation of humanity is . Mirjana and Ivanka say they know all ten secrets. The other four seers only know nine. It is assumed that once all the seers have received the ten secrets, the apparitions will cease in Medjugorje. In fact, the seers have all declared that, according to the Lady, this will be his last appearance on earth. This contributes to the dissemination of the apocalyptic orientation of the messages and arouses fear in the faithful.

Information on subsequent revelations consists of information that the seers have been instructed to disclose at an appropriate time in the near future. It is commonly thought that seers will reveal certain things to all’ authority of the Church – perhaps even to the pope.

The third part, called main messages, it is considered the most important. These messages are universal in their scope. According to Miravalle, contain six fundamental themes:

(1) wedding ring (Both in God and in the truthfulness of the apparitions)

(2) prayer (Especially the rosary)

(3) fasting (Twice a week on bread and water)

(4) penance (Abnegation for the sake of lost souls)

(5) conversion (To God and away from sin)

(6) pace (Of the soul first, then of the world)

The appeal for peace seems to be the central focal point in the Medjugorje message, so much so that the Lady identifies with the visionaries as the “Queen of Peace”.

Signs and wonders

There are also allegedly various signs and miracles accompanying the supernatural apparitions in Medjugorje. The most popular is undoubtedly the “miracle” Of sun. René Laurentin, an eminent Marian scholar, stated that “on numerous occasions, thousands of people have witnessed the change of colors of the sun that becomes a silver disk, that vibrates and pulsates in the sky, and throws out a rainbow of colors:

When I visited Medjugorje in September of 1990, I have observed thousands of people looking directly for the sun every day at 17:45, when the apparition is presumably taking place.

Most pilgrims claim that part of the miracle is that they are able to observe the sun for several minutes, without harming the eyes. This is not true in all cases though. A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine discussed cases of people who suffered severe eye damage while looking at the sun in Medjugorje. As this happens quite frequently, some doctors are calling her “the affliction of Medjugorje”.

In addition to solar phenomena, unusual things took place on the occasion near the great cross at the top of Mount Krizevac, the highest peak in the area. This six-meter concrete cross, overlooking Medjugorje, was built in 1933 to commemorate the year 1900 of the death and resurrection of Christ. Some pilgrims testified that they saw the arms of the cross mysteriously rotate. Others say it often becomes a brighter column of light like a neon cross. Still others claim that they saw it disappear before their eyes. E’ it was also reported that the word “ME” (the Croatian word for peace) she appeared in luminous letters in the sky above the cross.

Other signs have also been reported including: rosaries transformed from gold to copper color, fires on the hill when there was nothing burning, the images of Jesus and Mary seen in the sky, and numerous physical healings.

Many Catholics who have visited this country, But, they say they are more persuaded by the spiritual fruits they see there among those present and the air they breathe than by anything else. This fruit, in their thinking (or suggestion), it is the change of life that Medjugorje produces in those who visit it.
