What happens when we convert to Christ? We are born again. He is spiritually reborn to a new life, one receives salvation in that precise instant.
Know what happened, understand clearly what that experience implies, it constitutes the necessary premise to give the right perspective to your life as a believer.
It doesn't matter if you were in a church, in a home or anywhere else; it doesn't even matter if you were alone or among other people. What is important is that, at a certain point, you felt that you were missing something, that you were terribly alone; you felt lost, sinner and in the impossibility of getting out of this condition of yours.
You heard that Jesus could have helped you, free yourself, save you. Then, it doesn't matter in what words or in what way, You simply asked him, to come into your life, you pleaded with him. What all this meant? Let's say, simply, that two things happened at that time:
- Jesus became your Savior;
- You have become a born again child of God.
This experience of communion with God, this feeling his Holy Spirit entering you, it is so real that the day and circumstance of conversion will never be forgotten, For all life! This is what Jesus defines “be born again” (Giovanni 3:3-8). And it was God who gave us faith in that precise moment, faith is a gift from God and does not come from our free choices, it is He who pushes us to seek him. We are not the ones who decide to have faith, it is God who gives it to us and suddenly enlightens us, as he had predetermined in his divine plan.
For by grace you have been saved, by fede; and that not of yourselves:; and the gift of God. It is not by works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Is this being saved ?? and maybe, someone has already told you that you are. Despite this it is possible that, closely, you're wondering what the full meaning of the term is salvation and also for what reason the experience you have had is defined with this term. Here are some considerations:
God wants man to know three essential things. In particular, he wants man to know that:
1) He is a sinner
2) You cannot save yourself alone with his works or his choice (free will)
3) Only Christ Jesus can save him
The Bible says: all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God?? (Romans 3:23). That all includes all human beings. The Bible is not limited to this, it also reveals what hangs over man due to his state of sin: The wages of sin is death?? (Romans 6:23). The death mentioned in this verse is one spiritual and eternal death from which it is not possible to save oneself simply by nourishing good intentions or by doing meritorious works, attending a church or accepting suffering and deprivation.
Is there only one way to be saved from this death sentence? pronounced by God himself: obtain forgiveness of one's sins! Jesus, the Son of God, he provided this liberation with his death on the cross: He took our place and suffered the punishment that would be ours.
When we asked God to forgive our sins, believing that Jesus died for us, He welcomed us out of love for Jesus. Our sins were forgiven and Jesus became our Savior, rather, our personal Salvatore! At that moment something wonderful happened: we have not only been forgiven of our sins, but we have become children of God! The expression “children of God” it may seem odd, if not downright strange, but here is the meaning!
The Bible defines this event “new birth” (Giovanni 3:3). Thanks to your first birth, you have become a son of your earthly parents; thanks to your second or new birth, you have become a child of God, your heavenly Father. This is important to keep in mind as there are two natures in the convert:
- The old nature that you received when you were physically born for the first time. We can call her natural waist.
- The new nature, obtained at the new birth. Since, for the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ now lives in you, this new nature is called life in Christ.
As far as your first nature is concerned, you can be an adult at this time, young, or child; but what about your new nature, the spiritual one, you are a newborn. sure, you received a new life but this life has just blossomed and, then, it needs to develop: you cannot remain a child in spirit, but you have to become a mature Christian! How do you become spiritually mature? With prayer, communion with other believers and constant Bible study.
Biblical references:
What happens to those who receive Christ?
to all who received it he gave the right to become children of God: to those, that is, who believe in his name (Giovanni 1:12)
As can be seen the Kingdom of God? Jesus replied: "In truth , in truth I tell you that if one is not born again he cannot see the kingdom of God ".
Nicodemus said to him: «How can a man be born when he is already old? He may enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?Jesus replied: "In truth , in truth I tell you that if one is not born of water and the Spirit, cannot enter the kingdom of God.
The one born out of the flesh, it's meat; and what was born of the Spirit, it is spirit. Don't be surprised if I told you: “You have to be born again“. The wind blows dove wants and no hear the voice, but you don't know where it comes from and where it goes: so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.. (Giovanni 3:3-8)
How can we avoid death?
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him does not perish, but have everlasting life. (Giovanni 3:16)
What possesses those who believe in Jesus?
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, those who refuse to believe in the Son will not see life, but God's wrath remains on him ". (Giovanni 3:36)
