What does the Bible say about the end of the world? We should believe these prophecies?
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass.
As for that day and hour, nobody knows them, not even the angels of heaven, not even the Son, but only the Father.
Be on your guard, keep watch, for you do not know when that time will be. Marco 13:31-33
Nobody knows when the world will end! So it is obvious that the Bible and the words of Jesus cannot endorse these rumors about the Mayan prophecy that clogs the web so much lately..
Rather, Jesus tells us more: it tells us that the end of the world will come when we least expect it and not when we expect it. Because He will come as a thief!
The day of the Lord will come as a thief: on that day the skies will screech by, the inflamed elements will dissolve, the earth and the works in it will be burned. 2Pietro 3:10
Therefore, remember how you received and heard the word, keep on keeping it and repent. Because, if you are not vigilant, I will come as a thief, and you won't know what time I'll come and surprise you. Apocalypse 3:3
Why this then? What a judgment it would be if we could all prepare ourselves? The Lord calls us to conversion before the end comes and does not tell us when this will happen. It will be tomorrow, in a year, O 10? Nobody knows.
And then it also warns us against false prophets (who preach against his words):
Many false prophets will arise and deceive many. Matteo 24:11
Dear, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:; because many false prophets have arisen in the world. 1Giovanni 4:1
And it's obvious that if a prophecy is against what the Bible says, it is a false prophecy.
Below is an article taken from Focus, the well-known scientific journal, which explains how this prophecy is nonsense.
2012, the end of the world
The Mayan calendar ends on 21 December 2015. For many it will be the end of the world: of the worst. Plus magnetic storms, a mysterious planet, the inversion of the poles… What is true in these rumors?
December 20 2015. Don't make an appointment for that day. Don't worry about Christmas gifts. Everything useless. That day will be the last. Then the world will end, in style: volcanic eruptions, tsunami, magnetic storms, devastating hurricanes, radiation from space, the appearance of an elusive planet will trigger the apocalypse.
This is what hundreds of sites predict, a few dozen books, a series of television broadcasts that have made avalanches of money on this astonishing prophecy and captivated mystery enthusiasts. But it's true? We believe not, we are sure, and we would like to disassemble, one by one, all these theses.
The thesis
But let's go in order. What is the basis of the belief that in the 2012 the world will end? Here are the main events planned:
- The 20 December 2012 the cycle will end “long Computo” of the Mayan calendar.
- The day after that date, there will be the winter solstice and the Sun will be in a rare position: aligned with the center of the Milky Way, an event that does not repeat itself gives 26thousand years.
- In 2012, Furthermore, solar activity will peak and solar storms await us that can paralyze our society.
- The north and south poles could be reversed.
- The 21 December 2012 a mysterious planet (planet X, o Nibiru) whose orbit is beyond Pluto will collide with the Earth.
- The Yellowstone volcano in the US will erupt again… with catastrophic effects.
- Russian scientists have discovered that the solar system has entered a space cloud that is stimulating and destabilizing the Sun and the atmospheres of the planets.
- But that's not enough. The prophets of doom add to all these causes also the esoteric reading of Genesis (the first book of the Bible) and Yi Jing (the book of changes of ancient China). Passing, obviously, also through the prophecies of Nostradamus and the pyramids of Giza.
Let's try to understand if around these catastrophe theories there is some aspect of truth and scientificity or if there is only a very profitable business.
The end of time
The end of the Mayan calendar means that the world will end? The ancient Mesoamerican population did not think so
The first point: the Mayan calendar ends. The American people had developed a thorough understanding of mathematics (they had the concept of zero) and astronomy. To measure time they used 3 Calendar. The Tzolk’in, a very old religious calendar, foresaw 260 days; then there was a seasonal calendar, it followed the sun and lasted 365 days; finally there was the calendar known as the Long Compute. It lasted 1.872.000 days (5.125 about years). This is precisely what will close in December 2015.
There is something to worry about?
"For the ancient Maya, reaching the end of the cycle is a great celebration," he explains Sandra Noble, director of the Crystal River Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies (Usa). A bit’ as it happens for us, that we celebrate the end and the beginning of the year, without thinking that it is the end of the world. Considering the end of the Long Count as the end of the world or a cosmic change "is an invention and the possibility for many to earn money" continues Noble.
What's going to happen?
Not all sites and books dedicated to 2015 agree on exactly what should happen to the “fine” of the Mayan calendar: one stop of 72 hours of the Earth's rotation, an inversion of the earth's magnetic poles, a nuclear conflict, a flu epidemic, the impact of an asteroid, the explosion of a supernova or a more sober one “spiritual change”. "Already this extreme variety of scenarios should make us reflect on how precise the forecasts of these authors are," he explains Paolo Attivissimo, online buffalo expert. "They can't all be right".
Focus Judgment: nonsense
APOCALYPSE IN HOLLYWOOD |
Could not miss the American blockbuster on the terrible fate that awaits us. The film is titled 2012, cost over 200 Millions of dollars, will come out on 13 November. To promote it, the producers have also created the site of an elusive one Institute for Human Continuity which explains the events described by the film scientifically (sic). Online it is possible to participate in a lottery to be part of a small number of people who will be assured of survival. Obviously this is all false. The trailers and some scenes are used by pseudo-scientific TV broadcasts on the late Mayan calendar. |
Dangerous alignments and restless sun
Among the causes of the end of the world there would also be an alignment with the horizon of the galaxy and a period of devastating solar storms. But even in this case, little scientific evidence, and the fantasy goes far beyond reality.
The day following the end of the Mayan calendar, there will be the winter solstice and the Sun will be in a rare position: aligned with the center of the Milky Way, an event that does not repeat itself to 26thousand years.
The winter solstice itself is not dangerous: takes place twice a year, when the Earth's axis is more inclined than the Sun. Nor is astronomical alignment not dangerous or rare: astronomers observe them all the time. In 2002, for example, 5 planets have aligned over the span of 33 degrees without any consequence.
Glimmer of truth
The alignment of the Sun with the equatorial plane of the Milky Way is however a phenomenon “vero”. Indeed it has already been there, in 1998. The sun transits along this equator (arbitrary, like any dividing line, such as the Greenwich meridian) every 32 millions of years or so. It is difficult to think that such slow alignments and between such different structures (a star relative to a galaxy) can lead to such sudden changes.
JUDGMENT OF FOCUS: NONSENSE
Solar storms
In 2015, solar activity will peak. This is normal, because solar activity follows an eleven-year cycle and the last peak was around 2000. In normal situations and even in periods of maximum activity, the particles emitted by the Sun can damage satellites, cause blackouts at high latitudes, cause spectacular auroras. But nothing dangerous for man: the magnetic field that protects the Earth saves us.
Many disaster sites and books, But, they feed fear of this natural phenomenon, noting that in recent years solar activity has grown more than normal. But it's not true: the reality is that our Sun is calmer than expected and that the peak of solar activity will be around 2015.
JUDGMENT OF FOCUS: WRONG CONCLUSIONS ON CORRECT ASSUMPTIONS
Crazy poles and mysterious planets
The biggest buffalo? The planet Nibiru, or tenth planet, whose orbit, hitherto hidden, it will collide with the Earth. When? The 12 December 2012.
Those who believe in catastrophe press with a rather suggestive thesis. When the Mayan calendar ends the Earth, inexplicably it will stop for 72 ore, and then resume rotating in the opposite direction, with the consequent inversion of the magnetic poles. The Earth would be temporarily without the “shield” magnetic that protects it from cosmic and solar radiation (see previous page).
Slow reversals
“Inversions take a few thousand years to complete. And when that happens, the Earth does not remain uncovered at all. Simply, magnetic lines of force near the surface of the Earth intertwine and become more complicated, ”he explains Gary Glatzmaier, Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of California at Santa Cruz. “A south magnetic pole could appear in Africa, for example, or a pole to Tahiti. Strange, it's true. But the magnetic field is always present and never stops protecting us from cosmic radiation and solar storms. There have been several of them throughout the history of the Earth. And life has never died out ".
Just to know, the last reversal of the poles took place 780.000 years ago and you don't know when you will have the next one. Certainly, in any case, it won't happen overnight, but it will take millennia.
JUDGMENT OF FOCUS: HOAX
The planet end of the world
Nibiru, aka Pianeta X, aka Tenth Planet appeared around the 2002, its orbit only circulates on the internet. In the cosmos, the real one, no sign. According to the defeatist theses, the phantom planet would orbit at the edge of our solar system and in 2012 its orbit would come dangerously close to Earth and the Sun.. In the first case, the impact would make all life disappear. In case, luckier, that Nibiruy passes through the solar corona, its gravitational pull will induce a colossal emission of particles towards the Earth: a perfect solar storm, able to overcome the Earth's magnetic field. In a word: catastrophe!
Old planet makes good broth (buffalo)
As mentioned, the history of the planet has been circulating on the Internet since 2002: would have impacted the Earth as early as 15 May 2012. You noticed nothing? The alarm expired, the planet was recycled for the “profezia Maya”.
The scientific evidence produced online is false, no planet has been sighted by the NASA laboratories in charge of controlling the so-called Neo, possibly dangerous objects close to the Earth.
JUDGMENT OF FOCUS: HOAX
We have come to the end
The latest theses on 2012 and why the urban legends about the end of the world never end.
Finally, we close with one of the prophecies on the 2012 less known and present on the net. It is reported in one of the most complex texts that tries to give a scientific foundation to the rumors of the end of the world: 2012, Apocalypse by Lawrence E. Joseph.
According to Joseph, some Russian geophysicists led by Alexey Dmitriev they think the entire solar system has entered an energy cloud that is simultaneously fueling and destabilizing the sun. Earth could enter the cloud between the 2015 and the 2020.
Clouds “nebulae”
Dmitriev's analyzes are based on public data. His conclusions, But, they have not been published in any scientific publication. His catastrophic hypotheses, the interpretation of the data it gives, they do not convince the scientific community.
JUDGMENT OF FOCUS: BUFFALO TO CHECK
The conclusion is that all these assumptions, the scenarios that many pseudo scientists propose are only colossal hoaxes. None, but none of the catastrophe theories around 2012 it has the slightest foundation not only in science, but in reality. Why then so many people believe it?
They are fascinated by it because they answer ancient questions: how life was born, When it will end, we are alone in the universe, there is a way to save yourself, there are predestined? Stories like these show how the irrational sometimes disguises itself as science, you adopt the language to make the most outlandish statements credible. Some, based on this “credibility” false they take advantage of it, earning it.
In the end, the authority of science is recognized, but a greater critical spirit is needed, because today it is more complex to distinguish science from pseudoscience.
Be wrong
And what will become of the sites that describe us and prepare us for the apocalypse? What will happen to the television broadcasts that speculate on the subject? The authors of the books who try to give a scientific foundation to such hoaxes?
“As always happens with these prophecies, when the date approaches, the alarms subside: the end of the world comes down to “shocking news”He explains Lorenzo Montali, expert in urban legends. As it happened for planet X, so it will also happen for these hoaxes: will be set aside, proposed again after a few years, reworked in new ways. To answer ancient questions.
If after all this we have not been able to convince you of the unreasonableness of these theses, we advise you to donate, by 19 December 2012, all your assets to Focus.it. You don't need them anymore! The 22-23 December we will donate them to charity to give Christmas gifts to the poorest and most needy children.
You know ChristianFaith..books and films have to be sold..and then something similar shouldn't have happened in 2000 or in 1904(or so according to the JWs)?mah…
